UCLA Drops To Cal State Fullerton, 3-1

Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton scored two runs in the eighth inning on a wild pitch and a ground out to break a 1-1 tie and steal a 3-1 win from UCLA on Saturday night at Goodwin Field. The loss puts the Bruins at 5-8, while the Titans improve to 7-4.
Junior Dave Huff (1-2) threw 7.2 innings with five strikeouts, giving up three runs on six hits in a losing effort.
Cal State Fullerton struck first in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead with a RBI single up the middle by David Cooper to score Justin Turner from second base with two outs.
The Bruins scrapped for a run in the fifth inning to catch the Titans at 1-1. Senior Anthony Norman opened the inning with a double to left center field. Freshman Ryan Babineau singled to second base to advance Norman to third base. Senior Sean Smith followed with a single to shortstop with two outs to score Norman.
The Titans went up 3-1 on the Bruins in the eighth inning. Justin Turner led the inning off with a double down the left field line, followed by a single by Blake Davis. Brett Pill advanced the runners to second and third base with a sacrifice bunt. Huff then threw a wild pitch to allow Turner to score from third. Cooper grounded out to second base to score Davis and give the Titans a two-run advantage.
UCLA and Cal State Fullerton will finish the three-game series on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Goodwin Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
