WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA senior guard Lisa Willis has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 20-26, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
The Long Beach, Calif., native led UCLA to its first road sweep of the season, averaging 20.5 points and 11 rebounds over the Oregon schools, giving UCLA sole possession of third place in the final regular season Conference standings. Willis had a career-high 14 rebounds in the win over Oregon, and tied for the team lead in scoring with 17 points. The last of her 14 rebounds was huge for the Bruins. With 22 seconds remaining and UCLA up by just two points, Willis grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed free throw, allowing the Bruins to maintain possession.
Against Oregon State, Willis led the team with 24 points and hit a key three-point play that she created with a steal to give UCLA an 11-point lead from which the Beavers never recovered.
Willis, the Pac-10 all-time leader in steals, also ranks in the Top-10 on UCLA's all-time scoring list with 1,602 points. A starter in 86-straight games, Willis is the first player in Bruin history to post back-to-back 100 steal seasons.
UCLA (17-10, 12-6), clinched the No. 3 seed in the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Tournament and will play 6-seed California on Sat., Mar. 4 at 11 a.m.
