Men's Tennis Competes at Pacific Coast Doubles

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The California men's tennis team opened doubles play at the 117th Pacific Coast Doubles on Friday in La Jolla, Calif. Four doubles pair entered Friday's competition, notching three victories.
Former Cal tennis player and current assistant coach Patrick Briaud teamed with junior Tyler Browne. The duo won three matches on Friday. They defeated Calienes and Riveria 7-6, 6-3 in the round of 64. Opening the round of 32, the pair lost the first set 2-6, but bounced back in the last two sets defeating the fifth seed Abid and Surapol, 6-1, 6-2.
Seniors Lennart Maack and Dean Wallace teamed to defeat Miller and Miller in two sets, 6-4, 6-2 in the first round. However, they slipped in the round of 32 loosing to the third seed Gruendler and Pampoulov, 6-1, 6-3.
Junior Daniel Sebescen and freshman Eoin Heavey fell in the round of 64 to the fourth seed Joelson and Wooten, 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Ken Nakahara and junior John Pettit also fell in the first round to fifth seed Paradowski and Wakefield, 6-3, 6-4.
The Bears continue play at the Pacific Coast Doubles through Sunday. The tournament is held being held at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club in La Jolla, Calif.
