UW Baseball Schedule Set For Friday, Saturday
March 3, 2006
HONOLULU - The Washington baseball team will play Hawaii both Friday and Saturday with game time set for 6:30 p.m. Hawaii Time (8:30 p.m. Pacific Time) both days at the Rainbow Baseball Tournament at Les Murikami Stadium.
Hawaii lost to Arkansas in Thursday's night game, meaning that Washington will enter the tournament semifinals as the No. 1 seed. Both Washington and Arkansas are 2-1 in the tournament while Hawaii and Texas-Arlington at 1-2. The Huskies beat Arkansas, breaking the tie for the top seed, while Hawaii lost to UTA, meaning Arlington holds the No. 3 seed and Hawaii is the No. 4 team.
However, both Arkansas and Texas-Arlington are scheduled to depart Hawaii Saturday evening, meaning that Washington and Hawaii will be the only two teams that can play Saturday's 6:30 p.m. (HST) game. So, the Huskies will play the Rainbows Friday in the No. 1 vs. No. 4 game, but despite the standard tournament format, they'll meet again Saturday.
Originally, it was thought that the UW would NOT play Hawaii on Friday to avoid playing the same team three times in the tournament, but after Thursday's game, it was decided that the true seeds would be honored for Friday's games. The method for determining the tournament champion will be decided later, depending on the outcome of Friday's action. Arkansas and Texas-Arlington will play the 2:30 p.m. (HST) game both Friday and Saturday.
Live audio broadcasts of both UW-Hawaii games will air on the Dawg Channel at gohuskies.com.
