Stanford Falls To UCSB, 2-0

Fullerton, Calif. - Stanford gave up a run to UC Santa Barbara in the first inning today and the Gauchos remained ahead to claim a 2-0 victory.

Christine Ramos got on base early in the first inning for UCSB with a single to left center. Jessica Hejna followed with a sacrifice bunt to advance Ramos to second base. Kendra Singley then stepped up and knocked a single to left center to score Ramos from second. The Gauchos closed out the first inning ahead, 1-0.

Junior second baseman Lindsay Key singled to left field in the bottom of the third inning to get on base for Stanford, but the Cardinal closed out the inning scoreless. Tiffany Wright got on base for the Gauchos in the beginning of the fourth inning as she was hit by a pitch. Wright then stole second base and was hit home with a single up the middle by Brittany Putich and the Gauchos remained ahead, 2-0.

Sophomore infielder Erin Howe got on base in the bottom of the fifth with a single to second base. Key advanced Howe to second with a sacrifice bunt, but the Cardinal hitters couldn't bring her home. UCSB claimed the win, 2-0.

In seven innings, sophomore pitcher Becky McCullough allowed five hits and two runs, striking out one batter.

The Cardinal continues tournament action tonight against No. 16 Northwestern at 6:00 pm.
