Arron Afflalo Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

UCLA sophomore guard Arron Afflalo has been named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 27 - Mar. 5, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Afflalo, from Compton, Calif., led UCLA in scoring at the Bay Area schools to help the Bruins win the Pac-10 regular-season title. On Thursday, Afflalo played in a career-high 43 minutes at California, leading the Bruins with a game-high 25 points, shooting 8-of-16 (.500), including 5-of-9 (.556) from three-point range. He scored 21 of his 25 points in the second half, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor. Afflalo also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and added a steal in the 67-58 overtime victory in Berkeley.
On Saturday, Afflalo scored a game-high 16 points on 5-of-7 (.714) shooting, including 3-of-5 (.600) from beyond the arc and a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. He added three assists, one rebound and one steal without commiting a turnover in UCLA's 75-54 win at Stanford For the weekend, Afflalo averaged 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and only 1.5 turnovers in 30.0 minutes of play.
UCLA (24-6 overall, 14-4 Pac-10) captured its first Pac-10 regular-season title since 1997 and claimed the top seed going into the Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament, marking just the second time in Tournament history the Bruins have had entered at No. 1.
The Bruins begin play on Thursday at approx. 2:30 p.m. vs. the winner of Wednesday night's game between Oregon State and Arizona State.
