Powe, Ubaka Earn All-Pac-10 Honors

March 6, 2006

BERKELEY - Sophomore F Leon Powe and junior G Ayinde Ubaka have both been named to the 2005-06 All-Pac-10 team in a vote of the conference coaches, the league announced Monday.

In addition, sophomore C DeVon Hardin earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors, while F Theo Robertson was selected to the honorable mention all-freshman squad.

Powe becomes the first Cal player since Jason Kidd in 1993-94 to be chosen all-league during his freshman and sophomore campaigns. In 2004, Powe garnered All-Pac-10 and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year recognition.

UCLA's Ben Howland was voted Pac-10 Coach of the Year and Bruin F Luc Richard Mbah a Moute the league's Freshman of the Year. Brandon Roy of Washington is the conference Player of the Year.

Powe leads the Pac-10 in both scoring (20.0 ppg) and rebounding (9.9 rpg), while ranking ninth in field goal shooting (48.8%). He also has a conference-best 13 double-doubles, including a 22-point, 11-rebound effort vs. USC last Saturday.

One of 22 players on the national Wooden Award All-America ballot, Powe has also been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches all-district team, as well as the collegeinsider.com Pac-10 Player of the Year.

Ubaka ranks ninth in the Pac-10 in averaging 14.6 ppg, having scored in double figures 24 times in 27 games this season. In addition, he is eighth in the league in assists (3.85 apg), fourth in free throw shooting (83.2%), sixth in three-pointers (2.07 per game) and fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.68).

With Powe and Ubaka both on the team, Cal has two All-Pac-10 players for the first time since 2003 when Joe Shipp and Amit Tamir were on the list.

Third in the Pac-10 in blocks average (1.67 per game), Hardin's 45 total blocks are the fifth-highest total in school history. He is also averaging 8.0 ppg and 6.9 rpg for the Bears, while shooting 51.3 percent from the floor.

In his first season at Cal, Robertson has earned seven starts and is contributing 5.7 ppg and 2.6 rpg. He is second on the squad with 25 steals and ranks third on the Bears with 18 three-pointers.
