DALLAS - University of Colorado sophomore guard Richard Roby earned his highest honor as a Buffalo being named to the 2005-06 All-Big 12 First Team announced Monday by the league office.
The All-Big 12 awards are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
Roby is just the fourth CU player to garner Big 12 Conference first team honors since David Harrison during the 2003-04 season (Jaquay Walls, 1999-2000; Chauncey Billups, 1996-97).
Roby, a 6-6 guard from San Bernardino, Calif., leads the Buffaloes in numerous categories including points per game (17.8), rebounds (5.6), assists (2.7), steals (2.2), and 3-pointers made (61). He has scored 480 points in each of his two seasons and ranks 26th on the CU all-time scoring list with 960 pts. (16.8 ppg., 57 games). Roby also holds the top-six of CU's scoring games (33, 30, 29, 28, 27, 24) this season.
Roby is shooting .440 from the field, .758 from the free throw line, and .377 from the 3-point arc.
The Big 12 also announced their other awards: teammates P.J. Tucker and LaMarcus Aldridge (Texas) have been named Player and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively, highlighting the Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Awards. Michael Neal (Oklahoma) was picked as Newcomer of the Year, Brandon Rush (Kansas) is Freshman of the Year and Bill Self (Kansas) earned Coach of the Year honors.
The All-Big 12 First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention teams were also announced, while conference coaches also selected All-Defensive and All-Rookie Teams for the first time.
