MORAGA, Calif. - No. 6/7 California swept a doubleheader against Saint Mary's, Wednesday, outscoring the host Gaels 16-2 over the two games. The Golden Bears (15-2) were led by steady hitting from senior Haley Woods and junior Alex Sutton, winning the first game 7-0 and the second 9-2.

Woods, who was named Pac-10 Player of the Week for her 8-for-10 and five- home run performance last weekend, finished Wednesday's doubleheader 5-for-7. Sutton went 4-for-4 over the two games.

The Bears racked up 10 hits in their 7-0 win in Game 1. Senior Kristina Thorson (9-2) got the win, striking out 11 in seven innings.

Cal got on the board in the first inning thanks to a solo home run from freshman Morgan Siegel and an RBI triple from freshman Carly Winger. The Bears scored two more in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

In Game 2, Cal racked up 13 hits, including doubles from Siegel and Woods and a two-run home run from sophomore Julie Meyer. Freshman Lauren Frankiewicz improved to 6-0 on the season, pitching four innings while striking out five. Thorson finished the game, throwing three innings and striking out seven.

The Bears scored one run in each of the second, third and seventh innings. Cal also put up two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth.

Cal exploded in the sixth, with four runs on five hits. Sutton and sophomore Chloe Kloezeman led off the inning with a back-to-back singles. Sophomore Erika Racklin, pinch-running for Sutton, scored after stealing third and home. Meyer drove Kloezeman in on a sacrifice fly to center, bringing the score to 7-2. Senior Lindsay James singled and then stole second. She was driven in on a single from Siegel. Woods tallied an RBI, sending Siegel home on a single.

Cal travels to Sunnyvale for the NIST Tournament Friday-Sunday. The Bears open play against Santa Clara at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by a game against Colorado State at 7 p.m.
