Bruins Climb the Leaderboard at Las Vegas

The fifth-ranked UCLA men's golf team climbed the leaderboard Saturday and was within two strokes of the second round leaders after 36 holes in the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship, hosted by Nevada Las Vegas.
The Bruins posted the day's best score, a one-under par team score of 287, and climbed from seventh place, nine shots out of the lead to third place, two shots back. UNLV and Georgia were tied atop the standings at 589 (+13), followed by UCLA at 591 (+15). Oklahoma State was 4th at 592 (+16) and Georgia Tech was 5th at 593 (+17).
Individually for the Bruins, sophomore Daniel Im remained in the race for first place. He posted a 73 (+1) and has a two-round total of 142 (-2), two strokes behind first-place Chris Kirk of Georgia at 140 (-4). Kirk fired a 67 (-5) on Saturday to vault into first place.
UCLA junior Chris Heintz posted a 72 (E) and was tied for 13th at 149 (+5). Freshman Erik Flores and sophomore Craig Leslie were tied for 31st at 152 (+8). Flores improved 10 shots from his first round score, posting a 71 (-1), and Leslie carded a 75 (+3). Sophomore Kevin Chappell was tied for 47th at 154 (+10) after trimming 12 strokes off Friday's score with a 71 (-1).
