March 11, 2006
BERKELEY, CALIF. - Women's crew began their 2005 racing season with wins over British Columbia in the varsity eight, Simon Fraser in the JV eight and UC Santa Barbara in the third varsity eight and novice eight. Each of the Cal boats won its races by at least 10 seconds, with the third varsity boat dominating, winning by more than 30 seconds.
'Today was a great chance to get out and test our speed against some good competition,' said women's crew head coach Dave O'Neill. 'It is clear that we have a strong team and there are a few things to work on. We will have a big challenge coming in 2 weeks (Windermere Collegiate Classic) so we need to be fully prepared. Today was a step in the right direction.'
Cal also held two intersquad races between the varsity eight A and varsity eight B, and between the third varsity eight and the novice eight A.
