USC Bats Explode In 16-7 Rout Over No. 16 Stanford

LOS ANGELES --- Junior outfielder Daniel Perales (Orange/Mater Dei HS) went 5-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI Saturday as the USC Trojans routed the No. 16 Stanford Cardinal, 16-7, in nonconference action. Junior catcher Johnny Bowden (Springfield, OR/Chandler-Gilbert CC) went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBI as the Trojans pounded out a season-high 20 hits.
Freshman Ryan Cook (Clovis/Clovis HS) earned his first collegiate win with 5 1/3 strong innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits.
USC (11-10) answered a run by Stanford (11-6) in the second with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Baron Frost, Darin Vieira and Perales led off with consecutive singles. Hector Estrella hit an RBI groundout, followed by Bowden's two-run double down the left field line. Cyle Hankerd's two-run double knocked Stanford starter Matt Manship (0-2) out after he gave up six runs in just 1 2/3 innings.
After Stanford scored another run in the fourth, USC responded again with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Perales and Bowden knocked in two runs each during a four-run sixth before Perales capped the scoring in the eighth with his second homer of the season, a two-run shot to center.
Randy Molina led the Cardinal with a 4-for-4 game at the plate with a double.
