Shay Murphy Named Kodak/WBCA All-American Finalist For Region 8

March 14, 2006

USC junior guard Eshaya Murphy has put in plenty of work to help the Women of Troy into the 2006 NCAA Tournament. That effort and head-turning talent caught the eyes of more than just the Trojans' opponents this season, as evident in Murphy's selection as a Kodak/WBCA All-America finalist from Region 8. Murphy is joined by three UCLA players -- Nikki Blue, Noelle Quinn and Lisa Willis -- and two Stanford players -- Brooke Smith and Candice Wiggins -- as Region 8's representatives.

Murphy has been USC's standout player throughout the season, stepping up as the Trojans' leading scorer (17.6 ppg) and rebounder (7.3 rpg) as well as coming up tops in steals (2.3 spg) and 3-pointers (2.3 pg). She has led USC in scoring 20 times so far this season and has hit double figures in 23 straight games now -- 27 total. She hit a career-high 27 points in USC's final Pac-10 regular-season game just one game after hitting 21 points in the second half alone at Oregon on Feb. 23.

She has posted five double-doubles and now boasts 67 three-pointers on the season. That effort more than matched her previous career total and ties her at No. 1 all-time with 110 threes. Entering the NCAA Tournament, she is tied at No. 50 in the nation in scoring with 17.6 points per game.

The last USC player to be named a WBCA ALl-America finalist was Ebony Hoffman in 2003-04.
