Bruin Swim and Dive Set for NCAA Championships

The No.7 UCLA swim and dive team will head to Athens, GA and the Gabrielsen Natatorium for the 2006 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships March 16-18 with the hopes of bringing home a top team finish and All-American honors. The team is led by senior Kim Vandenberg and junior Katie Arnold who both have a shot at winning an individual NCAA title.
In all, the Bruins will send nine student-athletes to the National Championships.
Representing the divers at NCAA's will be freshman Marisa Samaniego, who will compete on both one-meter and three-meter boards.
In the pool, eight swimmers will head to Georgia - junior Katie Nelson, sophomore Chiemi Yamamoto, Arnold, Vandenberg, freshman Anna Poteete, junior Amy Thurman, senior Eileen Seissen and sophomore Nicolette Teo.
Vandenberg will compete in the 200 Fly, 100 Fly and 50 Free. Currently, Vandenberg holds the third-fastest time in the Nation in the 200 Fly at 1:56.11 and the 13th-best time in the 100 Fly (53.68).
Arnold will swim the 50 Free, 100 and 200 Back. In the 200 Back, Arnold ranks eighth with a best time of 1:56.19, and also ranks 13th in the 100 Back (53.99).
Nelson, swimming in the 500, 200 and 1650 Free currently ranks 12th in the nation in the mile with a best time of 16:18.00.
Yamamoto will swim the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 Breast. Seissen will compete in the 100 Breast, where she currenty ranks 19th in the nation (1:02.22), and 200 Breast. Teo will also swim the 100 (23rd in the Nation, 1:02.87) and 200 Breast.
Poteete will compete in the Sprint Freestyle events - 50, 100 and 200, while Thurman will swim the 50 Free.
Three Bruin relays will also be in action - the 400 Medley Relay, 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay.
Events will begin each day at 8:00 am (PST) with the prelims, followed by the finals at 4:00 pm (PST).
On Thursday the meet begins with the 200 Freestyle Relay, 500 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley, 50 Freestyle, One-Meter Diving, and 400 Medley Relay.
On Friday, the Bruins will compete in the 200 Medley Relay, 400 Individual Medley, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, Three-Meter Diving and 800 Freestyle Relay.
On Saturday, the final day of competition, the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, 400 Freestyle Relay, Platform Diving and the 1650 Freestyle (finals only).
