Cougars Cruise Past Iowa State

HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Washington State University Cougars defeated Iowa State, 6-1, Thursday during their spring break road trip. The Cougars move back into .500 with the victory and has a record of 7-7. The Cougars are currently ranked No. 71 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Sophomore Ekaterina Burduli continued her winning ways as she defeated Jill Palen, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 slot. Burduli has played all her dual matches in the No. 1 slot so far this season, and has accumulated an 8-6 record in the slot. Teammate Marjolein van de Ven followed in the footsteps of Burduli as she defeated her opponent, 7-6, 6-2. The victory gives van de Ven a 17-9 record, which is a team best.

Burduli and van de Ven teamed up for doubles for only the third time all season. The duo defeated Palen and Eve Soriano in the No. 1 slot, 8-0, a spot they have not played in all year. The duo has a record of 2-1.

The Cougars will take a short break and head back onto the courts in a four team tournament at Newport Beach, Calif. The teams competing are Loyola Marymount, Nebraska, and Ohio State. The Cougars will take on Nebraska, March 19 at 9 a.m.
