No. 3 Cal Sends Six Individuals, One Relay to NCAA Day 2 Finals

ATHENS, Georgia - The No. 3 California women's swimming team qualified six individuals and one relay for the Day 2 finals of the 2006 NCAA Championships at the University of Georgia's Gabrielsen Natatorium. Erin Reilly (200-yard freestyle), Ashley Chandler (200 free), Rachel Ridgeway (400 IM), Jessica Hardy (100 breast), Annie Babicz (100 breast), Helen Silver (100 back) and the Golden Bear 200 medley relay qualified in Friday morning's prelims for tonight's finals.
Hardy remained the No. 1 seed in the 100 breast after posting the top time in the prelims - 59.54. Babicz will compete in the consolation final after finishing 11th in the prelims 1:01.48. Hardy set a world record in the 100-meter breast last summer.
Reilly posted the second-fastest time in the prelims of the 200 free in a lifetime-best time of 1:45.00 and was followed by Chandler with the fifth-best mark of 1:46.49. Both Reilly and Chandler improved their standing; Reilly was seeded fourth in the prelims, and Chandler was sixth going into the morning's heats.
Ridgeway moved up in the seedings with her lifetime best 4:15.80 in the 400 IM. She was seeded 15th going into the prelims and moved up to 9th for the final.
Silver will move on in the 100 back and will be seeded first in the consolation final. She posted the ninth-fastest time and a lifetime best in the prelims (53.69).
