Bruins Out Row Anteaters

March 18, 2006

The UCLA women's rowing team took on the Anteaters of UC Irvine on Saturday, March 18th in Marina del Rey. Five Bruin boats were entered in the competition including the varsity four, novice eight, novice four, second varsity eight and varsity eight. Coming off a convincing win over LMU, the Bruins carried their momentum into this week's competition. The Bruins battled through incoming tide and a strong headwind to sweep UCI in all events.

UCI entered their top rowers in the varsity four race while UCLA entered its usual V4 lineup. The novice four race served as a time trial for the Bruins as UCI did not enter a boat in this category. In the final race of the day, both UCLA's second varsity and varsity raced against the varsity eight squad of UCI.

The varsity eight lineup consisted of Liz Pallas-Jacobs (stroke), Elizabeth Herron, Vanessa Teff, Patricia Dudziec, Elizabeth Lee, Alexandra Howard, Erin Rice, Erin Haggerty, Kirsten Potenza (cox).

Race results:
Women's V4+:
1. UCLA - 7:57.1
2. UCI - 8:05.8

Women's N8+:
1. UCLA - 7:20.6
2. UCI - 7:48.9

Women's V8+:
1. UCLA `A' - 6:56.9
2. UCLA `B' - 7:13.8
3. UCI - 8:14.8

Looking ahead -- The Bruins will take a week off from competition and return to action on April 1-2 when they travel to the San Diego Crew Classic. The crew classic attracts top squads from around the nation and UCLA will look to improve on last year's fourth-place finish in the varsity eight category.
