Softball Defeats #10 Louisiana-Lafayette

FULLERTON, Calif.-- The 15th-ranked Washington softball team (21-7) defeated No. 10 Louisiana-Lafayette (22-2), 4-2, Saturday, marking the Huskies second-straight win over a top-10 team. The Huskies, who defeated No. 9 Michigan yesterday, finished second in their pool behind No. 4 Texas and will advance to the championship bracket of the Judi Garman Classic. UW will face host Cal State Fullerton tonight at 6:15 p.m.
The Ragin' Cajuns got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with a leadoff home run by Lacie Bertucci to make the score, 2-1.
Washington scored two insurance runs in the sixth inning on one hit. Ashlyn Watson led off with a walk and Tyson followed with a line drive to left field. Danielle Lawrie walked to load the bases, bringing pinch hitter Brooke Woodward to the plate. Woodward worked a 2-2 count before hitting a hard ground ball to third base. Deserea Griffen made a errant throw home on the play and two runs scored to give UW the 4-1 lead.
Lacie struck again in the sixth inning, belting a two-out home run over the left field fence to cut Washington's lead to 4-2 but the Ragin' Cajuns would get no closer.
ULL attempted a seventh inning rally, putting runners on second and third with a walk and double by Ashley Evans but Lawrie tallied three strikeouts to pick up her 12th victory of the season.
Lawrie (12-4) held Louisiana-Lafayette to four hits, while striking out 13. Krystal Lewallen (12-1) took her first loss of the season as she allowed four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts.
