USC Evens Pac-10 Series With 11-3 Win Against No. 13 Oregon State

LOS ANGELES --- Baron Frost and Cyle Hankerd each homered Saturday as the USC Trojans evened its Pac-10 Conference series with an 11-3 win against the No. 13 Oregon State Beavers at Dedeaux Field. The Trojans led 6-0 after the fourth and broke the game open with five runs in the sixth.
John Dunn (2-1) threw 2 2/3 no-hit innings to secure the win for the Trojans as the team improved to 13-11 overall and 1-1 in Pac-10 play. Oregon State fell to 12-6 with an equal 1-1 conference mark.
Frost went 3-for-5 while Daniel Perales (Orange/Mater Dei HS) celebrated his 21st birthday with a 3-for-5 afternoon.
Mike Lissman went 4-for-5 for the Beavers while Darwin Barney hit a two-run double in the fifth, finishing 3-for-4.
In the USC second, Frost led off the inning with his third homer of the season, hitting a solo shot to center off OSU starter Mike Stutes. Stutes (2-1) allowed four runs on seven hits in the loss for the Beavers.
OSU had runners on first and second in the fifth, down 6-2. Dunn entered the game and retired Casey Priseman and struck out Bill Rowe to stop the Beavers' momentum. Two errors in the bottom of the sixth led to five runs for the Trojans, including a three-run homer by Hankerd with his fifth of the season and a two-run single by senior Darin Vieira.
The series concludes tomorrow at noon. The game will be broadcast live on usctrojans.com with the video webcast courtesy of College Sports' All-Access. Due to the Los Angeles Marathon, fans are advised to take the Vermont Ave. offramp from the Santa Monica 10 Freeway and enter the USC campus through Gate 6 off Vermont.
