Men's Tennis Upset by Hawaii 4-3

Honolulu, Hawaii - The #40 Arizona State Men's Tennis Team fell to 6-8 on the season as the Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii (5-4) defeated the Devils in a tough 4-3 upset Saturday afternoon in Hawaii.


The Devils stumbled early as they lost the doubles point to the Warriors, with only the No. 2 team of T.J. Bellama and Ryan McBride defeating their Hawaii opponents, Jarrod Diepraam and Bryon Weinberg 8-7(4). The No. 3 team of Nick Hegarty and Wes Miller gave UH's Sascha Heinemann and Chad Faulk a tough match, but were upended in an 8-6 decision.


The Devils didn't fall without a fight though as they rallied back to take three of the singles matches from the Warriors, as Jonathan Kinsella in the two-spot led the Devils with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Warrior, Bryon Weinberg while Ryan Waits stepped up to take down UH's Jeff Fitch, 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the six spot.


The Devils came back to within a point of winning the as T.J. Bellama in the five-spot defeated Jarrod Diepraam, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to pull the Devils up to tie up the match at three points apiece, as it came down to ASU's Wes Miller and UH's Chad Faulk, where Miller played well, taking the first set from the Warrior 6-4, but Faulk battled back to take the match to three sets where he defeated Miller in a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 final score.


The Devils return home to Tempe as they will get set to face off against in-state and Pac-10 foe, the Arizona Wildcats (8-5) on Saturday afternoon in Tucson at 1:30 p.m.
