No. 7 Stanford Prepares For Finals, Pac-10 Championship

Stanford, Ca - It will be an important upcoming week for the nationally-ranked Stanford women's gymnastics team. Finals will take center stage, and once finals are finally over, the Cardinal will travel to Corvallis, Oregon, on Saturday (March 23) to compete in the 2006 Pacific-10 Championship.

The meet will take place at Gill Coliseum on the campus of Oregon State. The meet will start at 6 p.m. Stanford last won the Pac-10 title during the 2004 season. That same year, the Cardinal won the NCAA West Regional crown, and advanced to the NCAA Super Six.

Stanford has now risen to seventh in the latest GymInfo National Poll. This is Stanford's highest ranking of the 2006 season. The Cardinal has a team RQS score of 196.085. The national leader is defending NCAA champion Georgia (197.255).

Five of the seven Pac-10 teams that participate in women's gymnastics are ranked nationally. Stanford is ranked seventh followed by UCLA (10th, 195.273), Arizona State (12th, 195.664), Arizona (15th, 195.002) and Oregon State (17th, 194.320). Stanford has defeated three of those teams (UCLA, Arizona State, Arizona), but were upset on Jan. 27 at Oregon State.

As a team, Stanford is ranked third nationally on Bars (49.265), fifth on Floor Exercise (49.140), ninth on Vault (49.145) and 12th on Beam (48.860).

Individually, several Stanford gymnasts are ranked nationally. Sophomore Liz Tricase remains #1 in the nation on Bars (9.955) and sixth on Vault (9.905). Freshman Nicole Ourada is ranked 17th on Floor Exercise (9.880) and 24th in the All-Around (39.155). Sophomore Tabitha Yim is 15th on Beam (9.855), 18th on Bars (9.870), 22nd on Vault (9.875) and 24th on Floor Exercise (9.865). Senior Glyn Sweets is 16th in the nation on Vault (9.880).

Stanford will host the NCAA West Regional on April 8 (6 p.m.) at Maples Pavilion.
