Arizona's Taryne Mowatt Named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week

March 21, 2006

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA sophomore pitcher Taryne Mowatt has been named the Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 14-20, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

The Corona, Calif., native tossed a no-hitter and a perfect game during the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., this past weekend. In pool play against UNLV, she threw a complete game with 15 strikeouts, retiring every batter she faced.

Against Cal State Northridge, Mowatt tossed five perfect innings in a 9-0 win, striking out 13 of the 15 Matadors she faced. It marked her first career perfect game, and fourth shutout in five attempts. She is just the third Wildcat pitcher in the program's history to throw a perfect game.

Against No. 2/4 Texas on Sunday, Mowatt relieved Alicia Hollowell, throwing three innings. Although she walked four batters, two were intentional and the only run she surrendered came in an inning started by an international tie-breaker.

Mowatt went 8-1 with a 1.80 ERA in 2005. Her only loss came to the eventual Women's College World Series Champion, Michigan.

Arizona (26-3), hosts the No. 10/11 Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette this weekend in a three-game homestand.

This is Mowatt's first Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week award and Arizona's 98th weekly honor all-time.
