Bruno Barbic To Swim At NCAA Championships This Week

SEATTLE - Washington sophomore Bruno Barbic will compete at the 2006 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta, Ga., Mar. 23-35. He will swim in the 50 and 100 freestyle events for the Huskies.

Barbic is seeded 29th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 19.90 posted at the Pac-10 Swimming and Diving Championships earlier this month. Barbic already owns the UW record in the 50 free with a time of 19.81 swam at the 2005 Pac-10 meet. He swam in the event at last year's NCAA meet and placed 22nd with a time of 19.82. Barbic is the only swimmer in UW history to swim the 50 free under 20 seconds.

He will also swim the 100 freestyle and is seeded 20th with a time of 43.56 set at the Pac-10 meet. Barbic set the school record last season with a time of 43.48. Last year, Barbic finished 18th in the event at NCAA's with a time of 43.60.

Barbic will swim the 50 free on Thursday and the 100 free on Saturday.

The NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships are being hosted by Georgia Tech and will take place at the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center.
