TOURNAMENT PLAY ROLLS ON
The Conference defeated eight ranked opponents over the weekend ... The Conference has seven of eight teams ranked in the USA Softball/ESPN.com Top-25, with all seven schools in the Top-15 and six in the Top-10 ... UCLA moved into the No. 1 spot in the poll for the first time since winning the 2004 NCAA Women's College World Series title, following wins over UNLV and No. 9/9 Michigan ... ARIZONA fell into a tie for second place after suffering a pair of 1-0 losses to No. 18/18 Texas A&M and No. 2/4 Texas ... STANFORD, CALIFORNIA, and OREGON STATE remained at No. 5, No. 6, and No. 8 respectively, for the third consecutive week ... ARIZONA STATE continued its steady climb in the poll, moving up to No. 9 ... WASHINGTON moved up to 13th place after defeating No. 9/9 Michigan and No. 10/11 Louisiana-Lafayette ... The Conference has garnered an .854 winning percentage (187-32) thus far, including a .717 winning percentage (43-17) over ranked teams ... Six of eight league teams are batting over .300, and six of eight are holding opposing batters under .200 ... Fox Sports Net will televise the following three Conference games this season: UCLA at Washington on Fri., Apr. 14; Arizona at Stanford, Fri., Apr. 21; California at Oregon State, Fri., Apr. 28.

ARIZONA (26-3): Arizona went 3-2 at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., losing two games to ranked opponents by one run apiece ... Sophomore hurler Taryne Mowatt had a stellar weekend, throwing her first career no-hitter in a 7-0 win over UNLV ... Against Cal State Fullerton, she threw her first career perfect game and second consecutive no-hitter, striking out 13 of the 15 opposing batters she faced ... It was also her fourth shutout in five outings ... In pool play against No. 20/18 Texas A&M, Alicia Hollowell surrendered a solo home run in the top of the sixth for the game's first and only run ... She also picked up a loss in the Wildcats' 1-0 extra-innings loss to No. 2/4 Texas in a semifinal matchup ... Caitlin Lowe extended her career-high hitting streak to 15 games over the weekend, before going hitless against Texas ... Against No. 6/7 Alabama in quarterfinal action, Arizona had at least one runner reach base in six of seven innings ... Wildcat pitchers lead the Conference in five pitching categories: ERA (0.57), opposing batting average (.102), strikeouts (346), fewest hits allowed (63) and fewest runs allowed (15).
ARIZONA STATE (32-3): The Sun Devils used a 1-0 victory over Utah to win the consolation championship at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., coming away from the weekend with a 4-2 record ... ASU rallied from two early losses in the tournament to win four straight, including two over ranked opponents ... Pitcher Katie Burkhart came out of the weekend with a 2-1 record, tallying 32 strikeouts and two shutouts ... She only allowed one run off 13 hits, and held opposing batters to a .149 ERA ... Sophomore Mindy Cowles scored four runs off six hits, two of which were home runs ... She now has nine long balls on the season, which ties for second in the Conference ... On defense, Cowles logged 14 put outs and turned a key double play in ASU's 8-1 win over No. 23 Fresno State ... During the same game, Desiree Serrano allowed only one run on four hits, fanning 10 Bulldogs ... Freshman Kaitlin Cochran continues to lead the Conference in several hitting categories: batting average (.490), on-base percentage (.579), hits (48), RBI (45) and total bases (82) ... The Sun Devils lead the Pac-10 in runs scored (199), hits (272), RBI (184) and home runs (38).
CALIFORNIA (24-2): The Golden Bears were one of four teams to go 4-0 through the Capital Classic in Sacramento, Calif. ... Senior Kristina Thorson (16-2) gave up just two runs over 24.2 innings, striking out 46 of 89 batters faced ... She picked up four wins on the week, and was also named to the All-Tournament Team ... Thorson leads the Conference in batters struck out looking (60), wins (16) and appearances (21) ... Haley Woods continues to dominate at the plate for Cal, going 6-for-16 last weekend ... She logged three doubles, two home runs, four runs scored and seven RBI ... Leading Cal in nearly every offensive category, Woods tops the Pac-10 in slugging percentage (.988), doubles (11) and home runs (11) ... She is in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak ... Morgan Siegel logged seven hits over the weekend, scoring five runs ... Cal had two multi-hit home run games this weekend; Woods and Alex Sutton went deep against Long Island and Julie Meyer and Woods hit long balls against Illinois.
OREGON (13-9): The Ducks got back to action last week, hosting Portland State in their home opener ... Head coach Kathy Arendsen notched her 500th win in the 6-5 victory over Portland State ... Freshman Sari-Jane Jenkins hit a two-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory ... Senior Dani Baird hit her first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the second inning that gave the Ducks the first lead of the game ... Freshman pitcher Melissa Rice pitched a complete game, striking out four and walking only one ... UO continues to lead the league with its 11 triples ... The school record for triples in a season is 15 ... Oregon also leads the league with 10 double plays.
OREGON STATE (21-2): The Beavers' home opener with Portland State was postponed due to rain ... The contest was rescheduled for Tues., Mar. 21 at 2 p.m. ... OSU leads the Conference in batting average (.349), slugging percentage (.552) and ranks second in on-base percentage (.412) ... Brianne McGowan ranks among the top five in batting average (4th- .458), slugging percentage (3rd- .833), and is eighth in innings pitched (91.2).
STANFORD (22-4): The Cardinal took the week off for finals ... Stanford has the second-best batting average in the Pac-10 with a .338 ... Catalina Morris leads Stanford at the plate, batting .432 with 38 hits ... Freshman Maddy Coon ranks fourth in the league with her .798 slugging percentage and second with nine home runs ... Anna Beardman ties for the Pac-10 lead with four triples.
UCLA (27-1): The Bruins posted two wins this week, an 11-4 victory over UNLV and a 10-inning, 6-4 marathon win over No. 9 Michigan in a rematch of the 2005 NCAA Championship series ... Against UNLV, the Bruins capitalized on 11 hits, five for extra bases ... Jodie Legaspi went 3-for-4 at the plate, and Lisa Dodd struck out seven ... Dodd also knocked a grand slam in the sixth inning ... In the televised game vs. Michigan, five of UCLA's seven hits in the game were home runs ... The Bruins scored their first long balls on solo shots from Legaspi, Caitlin Benyi and Ashley Herrera to take a 3-1 lead ... After Michigan took the lead with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh, junior Whitney Holum connected on the second home run of her career and first of the season to send the game into extra innings ... Krista Colburn then ended the game with a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th ... Colburn went 4-for-9 on the week, with two runs, two home runs and a 1.111 slugging percentage ... Anjelica Selden leads the Conference in ERA (0.33), opposing batting average (.092) and strikeouts (193).
WASHINGTON (22-8): The Huskies went 3-2 at the Judi Garman Classic, notching two wins over Top-10 teams and losing two to ranked opponents ... The Huskies opened the Classic with a 0-3 loss to No. 2/4 Texas ... Danielle Lawrie (13-5) recorded the first seven outs via strikeout, fanning 13 total during the game ... Aimee Minor recorded UW's only hit in the game, an infield single in the second ... The Huskies then roared back to beat defending NCAA Champion and ninth-ranked Michigan ... Sarah Hyatt hit a two-run home run in the third and Ashlyn Watson hit a three-run bomb in the fourth ... Washington toppled another ranked opponent in No. 10/11 Louisiana-Lafayette, thanks to 13 strikeouts from Lawrie and a two-run homer from Dena Tyson ... In its first extra-innings game of the year, UW outlasted Cal State Fullerton thanks to another three-run blast from Watson in the first inning, and a fielders choice from Ashley Charters that scored Marnie Koziol in the ninth ... UW fell to No. 20/18 Texas A&M, 4-1, in the semifinal matchup ... Lawrie leads the league with her 113.1 innings pitched, and ties for the lead with two saves.
