Golden Bears Open Their 2006 Crew Season This Weekend

Sacramento State: The California Golden Bears third varsity eight and second freshman eight will take on Sacramento State, March 25, at the T. Gary Rodgers Rowing Center in Oakland, Calif.

Windermere Crew Classic: Cal will face four crew teams from various parts of the country on March 25 at the Windermere Crew Classic. Against a field that includes Pac-10 rival Stanford, the Bears will try to repeat their stand out performance from the past three years. Cal will use the Windermere to prepare for the upcoming San Diego Crew Classic, April 1-2, 2006.

Cal's Schedule: Cal varsity eight takes on Navy for its first race of the Windermere Crew Classic at Redwood Shores, followed by races against Yale and Northeastern.

The Field: This year's regatta will include crews from British Columbia, Navy, Northeastern, Oregon State, Pennsylvania, Stanford, Trinity, Washington and Yale.

Last Year at the Windermere Crew Classic: All three Golden Bear boats went undefeated for the third straight year. The varsity eight beat No. 7 Yale, No. 13 Oregon State and No. 12 Wisconsin by six, 11 and 14 seconds respectively. The second varsity eight started off the regatta with a decisive victory over Oregon State followed by a narrow defeat of Yale and a strong victory over UC Davis. In their first race at Redwood Shores, the freshmen posted impressive victories over Oregon State, Stanford and Washington, winning by an average of 14 seconds.
