Having taken this past weekend off so the team can focus on winter quarter final exams, UCLA will return to action this weekend with a single game at Cal State Northridge before playing host to Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at Easton Stadium. Saturday's tangle with Cal State Northridge will be the seventh Big West school that UCLA will play this season. Pacific is the only Big West school that UCLA will not play in 2006.

Colburn Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
UCLA sophomore outfielder Krista Colburn was named the Pac-10 Player of the week for March 14-20, it was announced on Tuesday. Colburn hit .444 in UCLA's two games during that week, going 4-for-9 with two runs scored, two home runs and a 1.111 slugging percentage. She had UCLA's first hit of the game against both UNLV and Michigan, belting a solo home run in the first inning against the Rebels.

Against Michigan, Colburn accounted for three of UCLA's seven hits in the contest, including the Bruins only two hits that were not home runs. Coming up to bat with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, Colburn connected on a two-run walk-off home run to propel UCLA to the 6-4 victory over the Wolverines.

Bruins Return to Top Spot in Both Polls
For the first time since the final poll of the 2004 season, UCLA Softball sits atop both national Division I polls. UCLA jumped from No. 3 to No. 1 in both the Softball and the NFCA/USA Today poll this week after wins over UNLV and then-No. 9 Michigan coupled with losses from both Texas and Arizona at the Judi Garman Classic last weekend.

Colburn's Walk-Off Ends UCLA-Michigan Slugfest
A two-out two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning by sophomore outfielder Krista Colburn ended the highly anticipated rematch of the 2005 NCAA Championship Series last Wednesday night with UCLA winning 6-4. Nine of the game's 10 runs were scored on home runs as UCLA's Jodie Legaspi, Caitlin Benyi, Ashley Herera and Whitney Holum all connected on solo home runs during the game. Holum's shot, her first of the season and second of her Bruin career, came with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning as UCLA trailed 4-3. Five of UCLA's seven hits in the game were home runs and the Bruins left just three runners on base to Michigan's 11. Colburn recorded both of UCLA's non-home run hits with singles in the first and sixth innings.

Dodd Pitches, Hits UCLA to Victory Over UNLV
Junior P/1B Lisa Dodd struck out seven and connected on a sixth-inning grand slam home run last Tuesday as the Bruins pounded out an 11-4 victory over UNLV. Dodd walked just one batter in the circle and connected on her fifth home run of the season as part of UCLA's six-run sixth inning. Teammates Colburn and Legaspi also homered in the game while UCLA pounded out 11 hits in the contest.
