Prange Tied for Lead at Liz Murphey Classic

March 25, 2006

Athens, Ga. - Led by junior Amber Prange's second-round 1-under 71, the 25th-ranked Washington women's golf team shot 21-over 309 today at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. Prange's round was tied for the lowest on the afternoon and vaulted her from 26th position into a tie for the individual lead at 4-over 144. Washington's two-round total of 45-over 621 places the Huskies in a tie for seventh with Ohio State. Host Georgia holds a five-stroke lead over Wake Forest at 27-over 603. Auburn's Nicole Hage and Vanderbilt's Chris Brady are tied with Prange atop the individual standings.

'Amber's round was outstanding given the conditions,' said Washington head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. 'She made some good decisions down the stretch with the wind and she stayed within herself. It was freezing out there, probably 52 degrees but with the windchill it felt like 42. So it was an impressive round - probably equal to a 67 or 68 in good conditions.'

Senior Paige Mackenzie carded a 6-over 78 in round two, placing her 33rd at 13-over 157. Amy Wang shot the Huskies' second-lowest round of the day, 4-over 76, good for a two-round total of 15-over 159 and 47th place. Sung Ea Lee's 85 placed her 54th at 17-over 161, while Kim Shin's 84 put her in 65th at 20-over 164.

The third and final round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic begins tomorrow morning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. (ET).
