Stanford Picks Up 1-0 Win Over Princeton

Stanford, Calif. - No. 5 Stanford (24-4) picked up a second win of the day over Princeton, 1-0. Senior outfielder Catalina Morris knocked in freshman Missy Penna in the fifth inning for the game-winning run. Penna threw her 14th win of the season in the circle, striking out two and allowing only two hits in seven innings.

After four scoreless innings, Penna reached with a single to right field and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Tricia Aggabao. Morris then knocked Penna home from second base with a single to right field, putting Stanford in the lead.

In the sixth inning, sophomore infielder Michelle Smith knocked a single to the shortstop and senior Shoney Hixson entered the game to pinch run. Junior outfielder Jackie Rinehart followed with a single over the third baseman to advance Hixson. Sophomore Erin Howe reached on a fielder's choice and Hixson moved to third base. Howe made it to second with a stolen base, but the Cardinal closed the inning without a run for the 1-0 win.

Stanford tallied three stolen bases against the Tigers (Lappin, Rinehart and Howe) to bring the day's total to six. The Cardinal is 19-23 for stolen bases this year.

Morris was 1-3 at the plate with one RBI, while Penna was 1-3 with one run. Rinehart was 2-3 against the Tigers and 5-7 for the day. Penna improves to 14-2 in the circle.

The Cardinal will close out the Stanford Invitational II tomorrow with games versus UC Davis at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
