Cal Baseball Falls to Washington, 5-0

BERKELEY, CALIF. - Washington's Tim Lincecum threw eight innings of shutout ball to defeat Cal, 5-0, Sunday afternoon at Evans Diamond. The Golden Bears fell to 14-11 overall and 2-1 in the Pac-10, while the Huskies improved to 18-9 and 1-2 in league play. Cal captured the series, however, winning its Pac-10 opener, 9-3, over Washington on Friday, and prevailing, 2-1, on Saturday.
Senior shortstop Allen Craig and junior center fielder Brennan Boesch each had two of the Bears' six hits versus Lincecum, who improved his record to 5-2 with 8.0 innings with five hits, three walks and eight strikeouts. The losing pitcher for Cal was junior starter Michael Cooper (1-3, 4.3 innings, six hits, four runs, one walk, three strikeouts).
The Huskies scored a run in the top of the first on a RBI single by Zach Clem. Washington added a run in the fourth inning on a solo homer by Clem, two runs in the fifth on a two-run homer by Matt Hague, and a run in the seventh inning on a RBI single by Curt Rindal.
The Bears will next travel to Sacramento State, Tuesday, Mar. 28 at 2 p.m. at Hornet Field in Sacramento. Cal then hosts Arizona in a three-game Pac-10 series, beginning Thursday, Mar. 30 at 2 p.m. at Evans Diamond.
Washington: Clem, solo home run in the fourth inning. Hague, two-run homer in the fifth inning.
