All-Time Series: Stanford 29-15
2005 Results: Series - Stanford 3-0 (at Washington State, April 1-3) Stanford 14-5, Stanford 11-4, Stanford 8-6
Series Notes: Washington State's 7-1 and 8-5 wins in the first two games of the series have turned the tides on a 23-game Stanford win streak versus the Cougars that dated back to a 6-3 Washington State win at the UC Riverside Invitational Tournament on March 28, 1978 ... The streak also included seven consecutive three-game sweeps over the Cougars since the teams began playing conference games when the Pac-10 expanded to nine teams in 1999 and 10 straight victories at Sunken Diamond with the previous Washington State win over the Cardinal on The Farm a 5-3 victory in the first game of a doubleheader on May 1, 1971 ... Stanford also opened its 2005 conference schedule against Washington State, sweeping the Cougars in a three-game series in Pullman

TRYING TO AVOID A SWEEP - Stanford needs a victory in Monday's series finale to avoid being swept in a regular season three-game home series at Sunken Diamond for the first time since Arizona State took three in a row over the Cardinal on The Farm from April 11-13, 1997 (a span of 64 consecutive regular season three-game home series)

* FOUR-GAME SKID - Stanford's current season-long four-game losing streak is its longest since the Cardinal dropped four in a row since from May 11-21, 1998 ... Stanford has not lost five straight since a five-game skid from March 22-29, 1993

* PAC-10 OPENING STREAK OVER - After dropping the first two games of its Pac-10 opening series to Washington State, the Cardinal has had its string of nine straight series victories in Pac-10 opening series snapped

* BACK HOME - After spending more than a month away from Sunken Diamond, Stanford is in the midst of a seven-game homestand that will continue ersus USC (March 31 - April 2) and Sacramento State (April 4) after its current Washington State series ends today

* OFF THE ROAD - Stanford finished its recent string of eight consecutive road games (2/24 - 3/12) with a 4-4 mark and will not hit the road again until playing 10-of-11 games away from Sunken Diamond from April 5-23

* WINNING THE CLOSE ONES - Stanford has a 5-2 record in one-run games this season and is 2-0 in extra inning contests

* SEASON SUMMARY - Stanford started the season with a three-game sweep of then No. 5 Cal State Fullerton (2/3-5), before dropping two-of-three to Kansas (2/10-12), taking two-of-three against then No. 7 Texas (2/18-20) and at Fresno State (2/24-26), splitting a weather-shortened two-game set at California (3/3-4), dropping two-of-three at USC (3/10-12) and losing the first two games of its current Pac-10 opening series with Washington State ... The Cardinal also won a single game against Nevada (2/21)

* BEATING THE BEST, TROUBLE WITH THE REST - Stanford is 5-1 against ranked teams but just 6-8 against unranked opponents (according to Baseball America at the time of the games)

* FALLING OUT OF THE POLLS - Stanford has fallen out of the Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and Rosenblatt Report polls released this week after the team's two losses to Washington State ... The Cardinal was unranked in last week's USA Today coaches poll and was at No. 23 in the NCBWA poll with the organization's new poll due out this afternoon
