Arizona's Chelsie Mesa Named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA junior Chelsie Mesa has been named the Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week for Mar. 21-27, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
The Yuma, Ariz., native batted .636 (7-for-11) and slugged 1.182 in Arizona's three game sweep of No. 10/10 Louisiana-Lafayette over the weekend. Mesa drove in five runs and scored four, while hitting a home run, a triple and a double.
In the rubber game of the series, Mesa went 4-for-4 at the plate, marking the only four-hit performance of her career and the third for any Arizona player this year. In addition to coming up just a home run short of the cycle, Mesa was successful in her only steal attempt of the weekend.
At Phoenix College, Mesa was a two-time NJCAA All-American and a two-time national tournament MVP. She was also the 2005 Phoenix College Female Athlete of the Year.
Arizona (29-3), travels to the Oregon schools this weekend to open Conference play.
This is Mesa's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Arizona's 99th weekly honor all-time.
