Arizona's Taryne Mowatt Named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA sophomore pitcher Taryne Mowatt has been named the Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 21-27, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

The Corona, Calif., native earned all three victories in Arizona's sweep of No. 10/10 Louisiana-Lafayette over the weekend. She tossed a seven-inning, two-hit shutout on Fri., Mar. 24, striking out 12 Ragin' Cajuns and walking just one in the 5-0 victory. It marked the first time Louisiana-Lafayette had been shut out all season.

On Sat., Mar. 25, Mowatt threw another complete game, giving up one run in the Wildcats' 10-1, five-inning victory. She struck out eight batters and gave up no walks on the day.

Mowatt threw four innings of shutout relief on Sun., Mar. 26, allowing just one hit and striking out six. On the weekend, Mowatt allowed just one run, nine hits and two walks, while striking out 26 batters in 16 innings of work.

Mowatt went 8-1 with a 1.80 ERA in 2005. Her only loss came to the eventual Women's College World Series Champion, Michigan.

Arizona (29-3), travels to the Oregon schools this weekend to open Conference play.

This is Mowatt's second consecutive Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week award and Arizona's 100th weekly honor all-time.
