Richardson, Peckett Named To Pac-10 All-Academic Gymnastics Team

March 28, 2006

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Senior Kate Richardson (Coquitlam, BC) and junior Ashley Peckett (Mississauga, ON) have been selected to the Pac-10 Women's Gymnastics All-Academic team. Richardson, who holds a 3.66 grade point average in Physiological Science, earns her second consecutive first-team honor and her third overall. Peckett, who has a 3.67 GPA in Physiological Science, received second-team acclaim a year after receiving honorable mention honors.

Richardson, the 2006 Pac-10 Gymnast of the Year, is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and a 10-time All-American. She has won four NCAA titles in her career (two individual and two team) and won Pac-10 titles in the all-around in 2003 and on floor in 2003 and 2004. In 2004, she became just the second collegiate female gymnast to compete in the Olympics, representing Canada for the second time in her career, and she again made history by becoming the first Canadian woman to qualify for the floor exercise finals, where she finished seventh. This season, Richardson ranks in the Top 10 in the all-around (third) and on all four events, one of just two gymnasts in the nation to hold that distinction.

Peckett, a two-time NACGC Scholastic All-American, has been one of UCLA's most consistent gymnasts this season, hitting 26 of 27 routines (96%) without a fall and has hit 59 of her last 60 routines dating back to last year. She holds the Bruins' second-best average on vault (9.810) and third-best on bars (9.763) and has scored season-highs of 9.9 on bars, 9.875 on vault, 9.4 on beam, 9.775 on floor and 38.75 in the all-around.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
