Washington State's Jay Miller Named Pac-10 Baseball Player of the Week; Washington's Tim Lincecum Named Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON STATE senior left fielder Jay Miller has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week and WASHINGTON junior right-handed pitcher Tim Lincecum has been named Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 21 - 27, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Miller, from Bellevue, Wash., led the Cougars' offensive attack with eight hits in Washington State's series at Stanford. Miller batted a team-leading .667 (8-for-12), with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI. Miller had a slugging percentage of .833 and an on-base percentage of .692. In Saturday's opener, the senior went 2-3 with a run scored and two sacrifices in Washington State's 7-1 win, marking the Cougars' first win over Stanford since 1978. In Sunday`s 8-5 victory, Miller went 3-5 with one run, two doubles and two RBI. His RBI single in the fourth inning put the Cougars on top for good. In Monday's finale, Miller went 3-4 with a walk and run scored. His final hit, a two-out single in the ninth, tied him with Jim Connor for third on the school's all-time hit list, with 271 career hits. For the season, Miller is hitting .448 (52-for-116) with 20 doubles, 33 runs scored and 22 RBI.

Lincecum, from Renton, Wash., threw eight shutout innings Sunday to help the Huskies avoid a weekend series sweep with a 5-0 win at California. Lincecum (5-2) allowed five hits, all singles, walking three while striking out eight. He also pitched a scoreless frame in Friday's opener. Over his last 23 innings, Lincecum has allowed only eight hits and one earned run.

The Player of the Week honor is the second of Miller's career, while it is the 58th such honor for Washington State. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the fifth for Lincecum since 2004, and the 34th selection all-time for Washington. Lincecum is the first pitcher to earn five Conference Pitcher of the Week awards since Oregon State's Chris Pine earned five from 1996-1998.
