After a few remaining non-conference games, Conference play gets underway this weekend ... The Arizona schools travel to the Oregon schools over the weekend, and Washington and UCLA play in the Bay Area ... Last season, ARIZONA was 1-2 against co-Conference champion OREGON STATE, and 2-1 against OREGON ... ARIZONA STATE was 1-2 against both the Beavers and the Ducks in 2005 ... CALIFORNIA went 2-1 against both WASHINGTON and UCLA in Conference play last year, before falling to the Bruins in the WCWS ... STANFORD was also 2-1 against the Huskies and Bruins last season.

The Conference has seven of eight teams ranked in the USA Softball/ Top-25, with all seven schools in the Top-15 and six in the Top-10 ... Arizona moved back into the top spot after sweeping No. 10/10 Louisiana-Lafayette last weekend ... UCLA fell to No. 3 after falling to No. 18/16 Northwestern ... Stanford remained at No. 5 in the poll, and Oregon State took over No. 7 ... Cal dropped to No. 8 after losing a game at East Carolina, and ASU remained at No. 9 ... Washington dropped to No. 14, and Oregon received votes ... The Conference has garnered an .858 winning percentage (211-35) thus far, including a .727 winning percentage (48-18) over ranked teams ... Six of eight league teams are batting over .300, and six of eight are holding opposing batters under .200 ... Oregon State is riding a school-record 25-game winning streak.

ARIZONA (29-3)
: The Wildcats completed a three-game sweep of No. 10 Louisiana-Lafayette over the weekend ... UA outscored the Ragin' Cajuns 19-3 during the homestand ... In the first game of the series, Taryne Mowatt (15-2) earned her eighth shutout of the year, striking out 12 and allowing only three base runners ... The Wildcats ended the first inning of the game with its second groundball double play turned since May 14, 2004 ... Caitlin Lowe, out with an injured left hand, missed the first game of her career after starting in each of UA's last 147 games ... In game two of the series, Arizona run-ruled ULL in a five-inning, 10-1 victory ... Autumn Champion notched her 10th multi-hit game of the year, and first four-hit game ... Mowatt's fourth-inning single was the second hit of her career, both of which have scored runs ... Chelsea Mesa led UA with a 4-for-4, two-RBI performance at the plate, and was just a home run short of the cycle ... Arizona has hit 11 triples so far this season, its best since 1998.

ARIZONA STATE (34-3): The Sun Devils swept UNLV in a home doubleheader last weekend, outscoring the Rebels 13-2 ... Powered by their 17 hits on the day, ASU advanced its winning streak to six games ... Katie Burkhart (14-1) and Desiree Serrano (13-2) each picked up a win on the day, throwing a combined 14 strikeouts and allowing only one run apiece ... Kristen Miller knocked a home run in the third to score ASU's first runs of the day ... In the second game, the Sun Devils had 12 hits and drove in 10 runs ... Mindy Cowles' three-run homer highlighted their hit parade ... ASU continues to lead the Conference in runs scored (212), hits (289), RBI (197), home runs (40), walks (142), stolen bases (74), and total bases (451) ... Kaitlin Cochran leads the league in batting average (.490), on-base percentage (.580), RBI (45), and is tied for the lead in triples (4) ... Cochran is well on her way to breaking the school record for RBI in a season (58) ... Michelle Smith leads the Pac-10 with 35 runs scored.

CALIFORNIA (29-3): Cal was crowned the Pirate Invitational Champs after going 5-1 in tournament play at East Carolina ... Junior Alex Sutton was named Tournament MVP after going 6-for-13 with four doubles ... She tallied three runs and eight RBI over the weekend, and also drew eight walks ... Senior pitcher Kristina Thorson (19-2) earned three wins and a save in her four appearances over the weekend ... In 25.0 innings, she gave up just one earned run and struck out 43 ... Against Penn State, senior Lindsay James was a perfect 4-for-4, while sophomore Katie Vickers finished 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI ... In an extra-innings game against Kent State, senior Haley Woods knocked a double in the eighth to score Erika Racklin, and Vickers hit another double to score Carly Winger in the ninth to win the game 3-2 ... The Golden Bears run-ruled Buffalo, thanks in part to a home run by Gina Leomiti and a three-run double from Winger ... Woods leads the Conference in slugging percentage (.892) and home runs (12).

OREGON (15-10): In the opening game of the 2006 Cascade Clash, Oregon beat BYU 2-1, thanks to a bunt from Lovena Chaput that scored Beth Boskovich in the bottom of the seventh inning ... Freshman Melissa Rice (5-3) struck out five en route to picking up her fifth win of the season ... Senior pitcher Amy Harris (7-4) threw six hitless innings in a 3-4, nine-inning loss to Akron ... Harris returned to action after missing two weeks with a shoulder injury ... Dani Baird scored the Ducks' first run of the game from third base on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning ... Against DePaul, Oregon won by forfeit after the umpires called the game in the fourth inning ... The call came after DePaul head coach Eugene Lenti was thrown out of the game for arguing a call, but didn't leave the field ... The Ducks were credited with a 7-0 win, and Alicia Cook (1-1) got the win ... Oregon leads the league with 11 fielding double plays, and is tied for the lead with 11 triples.

OREGON STATE (25-2): The Beavers won their school-record 25th straight victory and coach Kirk Walker won his 400th game over the weekend ... After being rained out against Akron on Friday, OSU rallied back for a 2-1, eight-inning victory over BYU on Saturday ... Vanessa Iapala tied the score at 1-1 in the sixth inning with her third home run of the season, and then Adrienne Alo knocked home the winning run with an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the eighth ... Brianne McGowan (14-1) struck out a season-best tying nine in the game ... OSU defeated Akron 2-1 and 7-0 on Sunday, thanks to a combined nine strikeouts from McGowan and Ta'Tyana McElroy (11-1) ... McElroy held a perfect 0.00 ERA in her two victories on the week, tallying nine strikeouts in 11.1 innings of work ... Stephanie Ewing led the Beavers with a .600 batting average (6-for-10) with two doubles and an .800 slugging percentage ... In the two games vs. Akron, Ewing was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate ... OSU leads the Conference with a .542 slugging percentage.

STANFORD (26-4): The Cardinal won four straight games over the weekend at the Stanford Invitational II to remain undefeated at home this season ... Stanford outscored its opponents 21-1 on the weekend ... They were led by Jackie Rinehart, who notched three runs, three RBI, and a .615 batting average ... Lauren Lappin hit .455 with three runs and two RBI ... The Cardinal was 8-for-11 in stolen bases ... Senior Catalina Morris knocked in sophomore Anna Beardman for the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning in a 3-0 win over UC Davis ... Sophomore Becky McCullough (7-2) pitched her seventh win of the season and senior Laura Severson (4-0) recorded her first save ... In five innings, McCullough struck out five and walked one ... Junior Lindsey Key hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to run-rule UC Davis 11-0 ... Missy Penna (15-2) pitched her first no-hitter of the season, striking out seven ... The Cardinal opened the weekend with a 6-1 win over Illinois and a 1-0 victory over Princeton.

UCLA (28-2): After a 10-day break from competition for winter quarter final exams, UCLA returned to the field with a 1-0 victory at Cal State Northridge ... Tara Henry went 2-for-3 in the tight game, scoring the only run of the game ... Krista Colburn knocked in the only run of the game, a single up the middle in the top of the sixth ... Lisa Dodd (13-0) struck out three on the day to earn her 13th victory of the season ... The Bruins suffered their second loss of the season in a 2-3 loss to No. 16/18 Northwestern at Easton Stadium ... Cailtin Benyi and Jodie Legaspi both connected on solo home runs in the loss ... Benyi's seven long balls tie for sixth in the league, while Legaspi's nine tie her for third ... Anjelica Selden (15-2) leads the Conference in ERA (0.43), opposing batting average (.101), and strikeouts (201) ... Emily Zaplatosch and Dodd are two of 10 Pac-10 players with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

WASHINGTON (25-8): The Huskies shut out Pacific in two games last week, defeating the Tigers 2-0 and 4-0 ... It was the first meeting between head coach Heather Tarr and her former team, where she was an assistant coach for six years ... Danielle Lawrie (14-5) picked up her fourth shutout of the season, holding the Tigers to four hits and striking out 15 ... The low-scoring battle came to a close in the ninth inning, when Sarah Hyatt drilled a hard come-backer that hit off of the pitcher and allowed two runs to score ... Caitlin Noble (11-3) picked up her sixth shutout victory of the season in the nightcap, holding Pacific to two hits and fanning 13 batters ... She was also 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and a run scored ... Hyatt hit her sixth home run of the season in the sixth to seal the win ... Freshman Alicia Matthews belted her second career home run and first grand slam in UW's 10-2 victory over Nevada ... She was 2-for-3 on the day, with 5 RBI and one run scored to go along with six putouts from behind the plate.
