Box Score

BERKELEY - No. 7/8 Cal scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out the 2-1 win in Game 2 of a doubleheader against UC Davis (9-20) at Levine-Fricke Field. The Golden Bears (31-3) won the first game, Wednesday, 8-0, in five innings.

It was a final tune-up for Cal before opening Pac-10 play this weekend. The Bears open their conference schedule at Washington, Friday, and at UCLA Saturday and Sunday.

In the second game against Davis, Cal entered the top of the seventh trailing 1-0. To lead off the inning, freshman Gina Leomiti powered a single past UC Davis third baseman Nikki Sheldon and advanced to second on a throwing error from the left fielder. Sophomore Erika Racklin, who was pinch running for Leomiti, advanced to third when senior Lindsay James reached base on an error. Racklin later scored when freshman Morgan Siegel reached base on a fielder's choice, tying the game at 1-1.

With James on third and Siegel on first, the Aggies opted to intentionally walk senior Haley Woods, who leads the Pac-10 in home runs (12). It was her fifth intentional walk of the day. With the bases loaded, senior Emily Friedman, who bats cleanup for Cal, hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing James to score the winning run.

Senior Kristina Thorson earned the win, improving to 21-2 on the season. Thorson struck out 14 of the 18 batters she faced. She held the Aggies hitless and scoreless in her 3.2 innings of work. Thorson entered the game in relief of freshman Lauren Frankiewicz, who pitched the first 3.1 innings of the game.

UC Davis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Julie Stauder scored. She reached base on a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a fielder's choice.

Siegel led Cal at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 in the game, with one RBI.
