Men's Basketball Sophomore Josh Akognon to Transfer

PULLMAN, Wash. - Sophomore Josh Akognon has been given his release from the Washington State men's basketball team and will transfer at the end of the semester, head coach Tony Bennett confirmed, Wednesday.
'Our program wishes Josh nothing but good things,' Bennett said. 'He has to do what he deems is best for his future and we will help him in any way we can.'
A two-year student-athlete for the Cougars, Akognon recorded a team best 10.3 points per game and 37.2 percent shooting from 3-point range in 2005-06. He started 13 games, averaged 23.6 minutes per game, and was named Pac-10 Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 27 points in Washington State's 78-71 upset win at No. 10 Washington, Jan. 7. During his career at WSU, Akognon averaged 7.2 points per game and shot 34.7 percent from beyond the arc.
