Mackenzie Shoots 76 in Round One at Nabisco Championship

March 30, 2006

Rancho Mirage, Calif. - Washington senior golfer Paige Mackenzie shot a first-round 4-over 76 today at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, an LPGA event for which she received a sponsor's exemption. Mackenzie tied for 75th in the field and had the fourth-best round among amateurs playing at the event. After having some difficulty on the back nine, Mackenzie - who started on the 10th hole - rebounded on the front, recording birdies on the second and eighth holes.

The 35th-annual Kraft Nabisco Championship continues through Sunday at Mission Hills Country Club's par-72, 6,535-yard course. Former Arizona golfer Lorena Ochoa led the field in the first round with a 10-under 62, a mark that tied the LPGA record for the lowest round in a major tournament.

Mackenzie, a two-time All-American from Yakima, Wash., placed 10th at the 2005 NCAA Women's Golf Championship, the best individual finish in Husky history. She helped Washington to a 14th-place finish at the tournament, the second best performance in team history.
