Bruins Are in Second Place after Day One

The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team was in second place after the first day of competition at the PING/ASU Invitational, hosted by the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, AZ.

The Bruins posted an even par score of 288 and trailed first-place Arizona State by five shots. The third-ranked Sun Devils fired a five-under par team score of 283. UNLV was third at 290 (+2), followed by Pepperdine at 292 (+4) and Tulsa at 293 (+5).

Four of UCLA's five players posted even par scores of 72. Freshmen Tiffany Joh, Jane Park and Ryann O'Toole and senior Susie Mathews were tied for 10th place. Sophomore Amie Cochran was tied for 21st after posting a 73 (+1).

Arizona State's Tiffany Tavee fired a first-round 66 (-6) and held a two-stroke lead over Casey Hines of Texas.
