Husky Invitational Regatta Set for Saturday

Washington's top crews take this weekend off while the remainder of the Husky fleet competes in the annual Husky Invitational on Saturday, April 1. The first race on the 12-event schedule starts at 7:25 a.m. on the 2,000-meter Montlake Cut course that runs along the southern edge of the UW campus. The final race is slated for 9:50 a.m.
Washington faces collegiate competition from cross-state rival Washington State. Western Washington is the other collegiate team sending crews to race, Saturday in Seattle. Those three collegiate crews will be joined by four club competitors: Everett Rowing Association, Mount Baker Crew, Pocock Rowing Center and Sammamish Rowing Association.
The Montlake Course
The starting line for the Huskies' home regattas is on Lake Washington, parallel to the Evergreen Point floating bridge. The course runs from east to west through the Montlake Cut to the finish line near the mouth of Portage Bay at the west end of Montlake Cut. A good view of the race course is available along either side of the Montlake Cut, or from above on the Montlake Bridge.
Washington crews won five of the seven events in which they were entered April 9, 2005 at the Husky Invitational on the Montlake Cut.UW's fourth varsity crew won the featured men's race with a five-second victory over Lehigh in the varsity eight competition. The Huskies completed the course in 5-minutes, 59.1-seconds followed by Lehigh in 6:04.4 and a UW's second freshman crew in 6:16.1. Washington State finished first in the women's varsity eight event with an open-water win. The Cougars crossed the finish line in 6:51.1 followed by Washington in 7:00.6 and Lehigh in 7:02.4. Husky crews were also victorious in the men's junior varsity eight, women's novice eight, women's second novice eight and women's novice four events.
