No. 12 Cal in 10th After 1st Round of Bryan National Collegiate

BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. - No. 12 California is in 10th place with a score of 310 Friday after the opening round of the Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryan Park Championships Course.
No. 8 Purdue leads the 17-team field at seven-over 295, while No. 1 Duke is second at 298 and North Carolina State is third at 299. The Bears are only four shots behind No. 13 Tennessee and No. 20 Oklahoma State, which are tied for seventh at 306, and one shot behind South Carolina for ninth.
Duke's Elizabeth Janangelo leads the field by four shots after carding a five-under 67 in the first round. Wake Forest's Nannette Hill and Virginia's Leah Wigger are tied for second with scores of 71.
Senior Sophia Sheridan leads all Cal golfers in a tie for 14th at 75 after pacing the team in its last two events. Sheridan birdied the par five, 11th hole and posted two bogeys each on the front and back nines. Senior Sofie Andersson and freshman Shannon Yocum are tied for 30th at 77.
The second of three rounds begins Saturday at 5:30 a.m. PT. Cal is the only West Coast school at the tournament.
