No. 9 Men's Tennis Downs ASU, 6-1

Tempe, Ariz. - The No. 9 UCLA men's tennis team looked strong in its Pac-10 opener Friday, downing Arizona State, 6-1 at the Whiteman Tennis Center. The Bruins improve their record to 12-4 overall and 1-0 in Pac-10 play. The Sun Devils fall to 6-10 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
After sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match, UCLA came out strong in singles play, winning the first five matches in straight sets.
Chris Surapol and Benjamin Kohlloeffel were the first to finish their singles matches, giving the Bruins a 3-0 lead. Surapol downed Ryan Waits, 6-1, 6-1 at court No. 5, while Kohlloeffel was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Jonathan Kinsella at court No. 1.
ASU's lone point on the day came at court No. 4, where Nick Hegarty edged Philipp Gruendler, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.
UCLA heads to Tucson tomorrow to face Arizona at 1:00 p.m.
