April 1, 2006

Tempe, Ariz. - The Arizona State Men's Tennis Team (7-10, 1-1 Pac-10) grabbed another big win on the season Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Trojans of USC (7-10, 0-2 Pac-10) 4-3 on their home courts at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center.

The Trojans started the match off strong as they grabbed the doubles point from the Devils, with USC grabbing an 8-3 win first in the two-spot 8-3. Though ASU rallied back to take a match from USC as Devil duo of T.J. Bellama and Wes Miller topped Dejan Cvetkovic and Whit Livingston 8-6. Jonathan Kinsella and Ryan Waits brought it down to the wire in deciding the doubles point as they pushed Jeff Kazarian and Kaes Van't Hof  to a tie-breaker, but ultimately fell 9-8(5).

In singles, the Sun Devils came to life to take the match from the Trojans, with Wes Miller leading off with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jeff Kazarian in the five-spot. The Trojans fought back though, taking two from the Devils in the two and three-spots.

ASU came back though to take three tough matches from USC with Jonathan Kinsella, Nick Hegarty and Ryan Waits coming through for the Devils as each won in three sets against their Trojan opponents, giving the Devils an even record of 1-1 in Pac-10 play and dropping the Trojans to 0-2 in Pac-10 standings.

The Devils will continue Pac-10 play next weekend as they set to host #26 Washington Huskies and the Ducks of Oregon on April 7 and 9 at ASU's WhitmanTennisCenter.
