No. 3 Women's Tennis Beats No. 13 ASU, 5-2

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - The third-ranked USC women's tennis team defeated No. 13 Arizona State, 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Marks Tennis Stadium to remain undefeated in Pac-10 play. The Women of Troy move to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in Pac-10 play.

USC lost the first point of the afternoon in doubles play after No. 36 Luana Magnani and Lindsey Nelson fell 8-2 to No. 31 Pooler/Clarke and Carine Vermeulen and Dianne Matias dropped the match to Capannolo/Leitch 8-5. Amanda Fink and Judy DeVera clinched the Trojans only doubles victory over Abdala/Pileck, 8-5 in the No. 3 position.

Anca Anastasiu began singles play with her 13th consecutive win of the season over the Sundevils' Rankin, 6-1, 6-2 at court number four. In the first court No. 7 Fink captured a win over No. 116 Capannolo, 6-0, 6-4 and No. 49 Magnani overcame No. 84 Clarke 6-1, 6-4. Vermeulen clinched the match for the Women of Troy with her 7-6, 6-2 victory over Leitch at No. 5 and Matias gave USC its fifth point with a win at court three.

With the match decided, DeVera and Abdala continued to battle at court number six. After taking the first set and dropping the second Devera forced the third set into a tie breaker where Abdala took the breaker 7-1 for the 3-6, 6-4 match victory.

USC faces cross-town rival UCLA for crucial gauntlet points on Tuesday April 4, at 1:30 p.m. at Marks Tennis stadium.
