Washington 10th at Augusta Invitational

April 1, 2006

Evans, Ga. - The 31st-ranked Washington men's golf team shot rounds of 297 and 289 in the first and second rounds of the Administaff Augusta State Invitational, placing 10th in the field with a composite score of 10-over 586. Coastal Carolina had rounds of 282 and 283 to lead the field at 11-under 565.

Washington juniors Erik Olson and Alex Prugh, co-runners up at last week's National Invitational, again led the Huskies, finishing the two rounds tied for 17th at even-par 144. Olson shot matching rounds of 72 while Prugh rebounded from a first-round 74 with a 2-under 70 in round two.

'Erik and Alex were great again,' said Washington head coach Matt Thurmond. 'They picked up where they left off last week. I'm really proud of Erik - he was two-over in the second round and then made a couple of birdies coming in to the clubhouse. And Alex made a bunch of birdies. He had a rough start but he came back and had a pretty nice day.'

Husky sophomore Zach Bixler shot rounds of 75 and 74 in the first and second rounds, respectively, to place 49th at 5-over 149. One stroke behind him is senior James Lepp, who turned in a 77 and a 73 and is tied for 54th. Sophomore Joe Panzeri, the co-medalist at last week's Duck Invitational, shot matching rounds of 76 to place 65th at 8-over 152.

Scott Brown of South Carolina-Aiken and Dustin Johnson of Coastal Carolina share the lead atop the individual leader board at 5-under 139.

The third and final round of the Administaff Augusta State Invitational begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. (ET). Live scoring of the round is available at golfstat.com.
