LOS ANGELES - No. 8 Cal scored its only run of the game on a solo home run from sophomore Katie Vickers, but it wasn't enough, as host UCLA defeated the Golden Bears, 3-1, Sunday. Cal (33-4) went 2-1 in the first weekend of Pac-10 play, with wins at No. 14 Washington and No. 2/3 UCLA, Friday and Saturday respectively.

Sunday, the Bruins (30-3, 2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, when Krista Colburn homered to right field. Cal tied it up in the second on the solo shot from Vickers. UCLA took the lead for good when Colburn hit a two-run double in third, scoring Andrea Duran and Jaisa Creps.

Cal senior Kristina Thorson (23-3) suffered just her third loss of the season. She had collected 20 consecutive wins entering Sunday's game, dating back to Feb. 18.

Sophomore Julie Meyer finished 2-for-3 for the Bears, and senior Haley Woods went 1-for-1 with a single. Cal was held to four hits.

The Bears host Oregon and Oregon State next weekend, with the Ducks visiting Berkeley on Friday (3 p.m.), and the Beavers playing at Cal Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.).
