All-Time Series: USC 206-159-3
2006 Results: Series - USC 3-2 (Conference at Stanford, April 1) Stanford 9-7 DH Game 1, USC 3-2 (12 inn.) DH Game 2; (Non-Conference at USC, March 10-12) Stanford 7-6, USC 16-7, USC 7-2
2005 Results: Series - Tied 3-3 (Non-Conference at Stanford, February 25-27) Stanford 6-0, Stanford 4-3, USC 8-2; (Conference at USC, May 27-29) USC 5-2, Stanford 14-3, USC 4-2
Series Notes: Stanford needs a victory in today's series finale and final 2006 regular season meeting between the clubs to avoid dropping a season series to the Trojans for the first time since USC won all six games over the Cardinal in 1996 ... Stanford also needs a victory today to avoid losing its third straight series to the Trojans since USC won all nine games in the final regular season series of 1995 and both series in 1996 ... A Stanford win today would also extend the Cardinal's home regular season serieswin streak over the Trojans to seven with USC last winning a series over the Cardinal at Sunken Diamond when the Trojans took two-of-three from April 16-18, 1999 ... Prior to dropping two-of-three to the Trojans in each of the two series (both in Los Angeles) heading into the current three-game set, Stanford had won seven straight regular season three-game sets against the Trojans ... Although Stanford is 44-19 in the last 63 games between the teams, USC is still one of only two 2006 regular season opponents that lead the all-time series over the Cardinal

• STEPS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION – After dropping the first two games of its first Pac-10 series versus Washington State, Stanford won its series finale against the Cougars and the opening game of yesterday's doubleheader before the brief two-game win streak was snapped with the heartbreaking 3-2 loss to the Trojans in the nightcap of the twinbill

• TIGHT PAC-10 RACE IN THE EARLY GOING – Only one game separated all nine teams in the Pac-10 standings heading into Sunday's action (First-place California made it 1.5 by beating Arizona, 5-4, in 13 innings in the resumption of Saturday's suspended game between the clubs on Sunday morning)

• THE ROAD ON THE HORIZON – After its current seven-game homestand ends versus Sacramento State on Tuesday, Stanford will return to the road to play 10 of its next 11 games from April 5-23 with only a home date versus San Francisco (Tuesday, April 11, 6 pm) breaking up the long run of road games ... Stanford is 4-4 away from Sunken Diamond this season posting that mark during a string of eight consecutive road games from February 24 - March 12

• WINNING THE CLOSE ONES – Stanford has a 5-3 record in one-run games this season and is 2-1 in extra inning contests

• SEASON SUMMARY – Stanford started the season with a three-game sweep of then No. 5 Cal State Fullerton (2/3-5), before dropping two-of-three to Kansas (2/10-12), taking two-of-three against then No. 7 Texas (2/18-20) and at Fresno State (2/24-26), splitting a weather-shortened two-game set at California (3/3-4), dropping two-of-three both at USC (3/10-12) and versus Washington State (3/25-27), and splitting yesterday's doubleheader to USC in its most recent action ... The Cardinal also won a single game against Nevada (2/21)

• BEATING THE BEST, TROUBLE WITH THE REST – Stanford is 5-1 against ranked teams but just 8-9 against unranked opponents (according to Baseball America at the time of the games)

• FALLING OUT OF THE POLLS – Stanford has fallen out of all five major national polls (Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, NCBWA, Rosenblatt Report, USA Today) after being ranked in all but the USA Today poll last week
