No. 10 Women's Tennis Heads to the Bay Area

Bruins Continue Pac-10 Play Up in the Bay Area . . .
The No. 10 UCLA women's tennis team (12-2; 4-0 Pac-10) takes its unblemished conference record on the road this week, traveling to the Bay Area for matches against top-ranked Stanford (18-0; 3-0 Pac-10) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and No. 13 Cal (12-5; 3-0 Pac-10) on Saturday at Noon. The Bruins lost to Stanford, 6-0 and edged Cal, 4-3 earlier this season at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. Those matches did not count in the conference standings.

Bruins Sweep Arizona Schools . . .
UCLA improved to 4-0 in the Pac-10 last week, downing No. 13 Arizona State and No. 30 Arizona at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins began the weekend with a 6-1 decision over ASU on Friday, before recording a 5-2 victory over Arizona the following day. UCLA beat both schools 7-0 earlier in the season, however last weekend's matches were the ones that count in the conference standings.

UCLA Moves Up to No. 10 in Fila/ITA Rankings . . .
UCLA checks in at No. 10 in the latest Fila/ITA Team Rankings released on Tuesday. Individual rankings were also released for the first time in two weeks. Laura Gordon is ranked No. 20 in singles. She is followed by No. 42 Tracy Lin, No. 110 Ashley Joelson, No. 117 Alex McGoodwin and No. 124 Anna-Viktoria Lind. Gordon and Riza Zalameda are ranked No. 23 in doubles. New team rankings will be released on April 11.

USC Match Rescheduled....Again . . .
For the third time this season, UCLA's non-conference match against crosstown rival USC had to be rescheduled due to rain. The match, originally scheduled for March 17 and then moved to April 4, will now be on Tuesday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m. It will take place at the Marks Tennis Stadium on the campus of USC.

Streaks . . .
Elizabeth Lumpkin currently owns the longest singles winning streak on the team, winning her last eight matches. She is followed by Laura Gordon and Ashley Joelson who have each won their last seven. In doubles, Gordon and Riza Zalameda have won 10 in a row.

20-Match Winners . . .
A total of three Bruin players have surpassed the 20-win mark in singles play this season. Leading the way is sophomore Tracy Lin, who owns a 25-7 overall record. She is followed by freshman Ashley Joelson (22-9) and senior Laura Gordon (21-5). At 16-7 overall, sophomore Elizabeth Lumpkin is the next likely player to join this group.

Head Coach Stella Sampras Webster . . .
Stella Sampras Webster is in her 10th season as the head coach of the UCLA women's tennis team. She owns a career record of 162-85 (.656). In her first nine seasons at UCLA, Sampras Webster guided the Bruins to eight top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including five top-5 showings (1997, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004). In 2004, she led UCLA to the NCAA Finals for the first time since 1991. It also marked the first time since 1991 that the Bruins surpassed the 20-win mark, finishing with a 21-8 overall record.
