Match Point:

The Sun Devils are coming off of a split weekend which saw them fall to the UCLA Bruins 6-1, and rally to beat the Trojans of USC 4-3 to fall now at 7-10 on the season and an even 1-1 in Pac-10 standings. Junior Nick Hegarty picked up his ninth dual win of the season in the four-spot as he defeated UCLA's Philipp Gruendler in a 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 decision, gaining the only point for the Sun Devils against the Bruins. ASU turned around to rally the next day though as they faced the USC Trojans, where the Trojans came out to take the doubles point from ASU, but after wins from Jonathan Kinsella, Nick Hegarty, Wes Miller and Ryan Waits in the 1, 4, 5 and 6 spots, the Devils came from behind to take the match from USC, evening their Pac-10 standings at 1-1.

On Tap:

Next up, the Sun Devils will face off against Pac-10 foes, #33 Washington (13-4, 0-1 Pac-10) and Oregon (6-12, 0-2 Pac-10) this Friday and Sunday at their home courts in Tempe at the ASUWhitemanTennisCenter. Friday's match is set to kick-off at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday's at 11 a.m. Both matches will count towards Pac-10 standings. Fans are reminded that Sunday's match versus Oregon will conflict with the Ironman Triathalon being held in Tempe. University Dr
exit, right on Rural and left
6th St.
The match starts at 11 a.m. and ASU thanks you for your patience and apologizes for any inconvenience you might encounter.

Scouting the Huskies:

The Washington Huskies are competing to defend their 2005 Pac-10 title and are currently 13-4 on the season and 0-1 in Pac-10 standings after being completely shut out by Stanford last weekend in a tough 7-0 loss in Palo Alto. The Huskies are currently  ranked 33rd in the nation by the ITA, with junior Alex Slovic leading the way for the Dawgs in singles and a current ranking of 33 by the ITA. Slovic has also paired up with Husky teammate Daniel Chu in doubles, where they held a #15 ranking before their loss to Stanford's KC Corkery and Matt Bruch dropped them back 18 spots. Due to consistent play in the second and third singles positions, exchange student, Jean-Noel Insausti has also jumped into the rankings for UW at #90.

Scouting the Ducks:

The Oregon Ducks are currently sitting on a 6-12 season record and a 0-2 Pac-10 record after coming off of two tough losses to Cal and Stanford last weekend in California. The Ducks were shut out by the Cal Bears and only allowed on point from the Stanford Cardinal squad that the Sun Devils topped earlier this season. The Ducks are led by senior Marcus Schiller, who holds a #77 ranking by the ITA and was the only Duck to find success last weekend as he defeated Stanford's Matt Bruch, giving the Ducks their only point on the weekend.

Series History:

The Sun Devils currently lead the series history against both the Huskies and Ducks as they are 14-5 against the Huskies with their last meeting on April 10 of last year resulting in a 6-1 Husky win. Against the Ducks ASU holds a 10-2 all-time record, with their last meeting last year on April 8 yielding a 5-2 Sun Devil victory.

Home Sweet Home:

Currently the Sun Devils are 7-5 on their home courts at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center, and for the past six years have posted a 65-35 (.650) overall dual record at home and a 48-27 (.640) record at home against non-conference teams.

In the Sweet Six-Spot:

Thus far this season, the Sun Devils have compiled winning percentage of 76% in the six-spot, where thus far on the season they have only lost four matches.

Time-tested Leadership:

In his 24th season as head coach, Lou Belken has produced 14 All-Americans and 17 All-Pac-10 selections, including NCAA singles champion and ATP professional Sargis Sargsian. Belken is also only the 12th coach (currently only the third active, including the Women's Tennis Coach, Sheila McInerney and Gymnastics' Coach, John Spini) in ArizonaState athletic history to achieve the 20 season milestone.

The Votes Are In:

The Devils are currently ranked 51 in the ITA Fila Rankings, rising from their last ranking of 55. They finished last season ranked 50 by the ITA. Sun Devil junior, Jonathan Kinsella has also jumped into the rankings at #104.

Tough Schedule/Tougher Conference:

The Devils as always find themselves competing against some of the best teams in the world, in one of the hardest tennis conferences in the nation in the Pac-10. Currently, three of the eight Pac-10 teams are ranked in the top 25.

Depth Chart:

The Devils have a great roster this year as they have five returning players with an older cast of one senior, Ryan McBride, and three juniors: Christopher Biro, Jonathan Kinsella and Nick Hegarty. The roster also includes two sophomores, one returning from last year, Mike Beatty and transfer from Miami, Ryan Waits. Three freshmen also round out the roster, T.J. Bellama, Will Grist and Wes Miller, two of whom have already jumped in to impact the Devils immediately.
