Stanford Men In Fifth At ASU Thunderbird Invitational

Tempe, Ariz. - The Stanford men's golf team shot rounds of 283 and 276 on the opening day of play at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Arizona today. Their two-round total of 559 puts them in fifth place overall heading into tomorrow's final 18 holes. San Diego State and UNLV are tied for the overall lead (549) while Kansas State and Arizona are tied for third (558).
Rounding out the top 10 are Arizona State (560), Illinois (567), California (572), Texas Tech (573) and South Carolina (577).
Cardinal Rob Grube fired rounds of 71 and 67 to tie for eighth individually with a 138. Teammates Scott MacDonald (70-70) and Matt Savage (71-69) are tied for 15th at 140. Stanford's Zack Miller checks in tied for 20th after carding a 141 (71-70) while Daniel Lim is tied for 50th (74-72--146). Freshman Dodge Kemmer, competing as an individual, is tied for 30th with a 143 (70-73).
Kansas State's Ben Kern sits atop the individual leaderboard with a 134 after posting rounds of 69 and 65.
The final round will take place tomorrow at the Karsten Golf Course.
